Redfern Natural History社から出版された限定版サイエンス写真集。
本書の中には、熱帯雨林の生物を中心に、水中の生物、砂漠の植物など、見たことのないユニークな擬態生物たちが次々と登場するが、そのうち熱帯雨林の写真のほとんどが、マレーシア・サラワク州在住の写真家”Ch’ien C. Lee氏”によるものだ。蜜林堂の擬態クリアファイルでもおなじみの写真家だ。

自然系出版社だけに擬態についての説明はしっかりなされているし、隠ぺい擬態、ベーツ型擬態など、パターン別にわかりやすく編集されている。しかし、何よりも素晴らしいのはその写真である。たとえ英語が苦手でも、1冊の写真集として十分に見ごたえのある、芸術性のある写真で構成されている。その擬態にどんな意味があるのかは、丁寧に撮られた写真と、そこに写る生き物たちが十分に語ってくれるはずだ。
